VISIPLAN

A 3D ALARA planning tool for Nuclear Environments

What is VISIPLAN?

VISIPLAN is a dose assessment program developed by SCK CEN to assist the ALARA analyst in pre-job studies. The VISIPLAN tools assist both in the calculation and the communication in ALARA evaluations.

  • The code is based on a 3D model including material, geometry and sources.
  • The Point-kernel dose calculation method, with build-up correction is used.
  • The code allows to perform dose assessment for tasks, trajectories and scenarios. It estimates individual and collective dose.
  •  Special tools are available for source sensitivity analysis and source strength determination from measured dose rate sets.

FAQ

  • Click on the following link, to download the Cortona VRML Client (new version!)

  • The sentinel System Driver is necessary to communicate with the protection dongle. We use the Safenet Sentinel Dongle. You can find the latest version of the software at the following location Sentinel System Driver.

  • Probably you have used Cortona VRML browser for viewing your VRML models. This problem will be encountered when you use version 4.2. It is best to go to the cortona website (parallel graphics) and download version 5.1. This will render your models without any problems. Version 4.2 give some errors because Microsoft has brought new windows updates to the operating system and this prevents the execution of Javascripts in VRML models. Version 5.2 of the Cortona plug-in, executes those javascripts without interaction of Microsoft IE 6 or 7. Cortona VRML Client

  • VRML is an open format for 3D representation. Visiplan and its supporting tools, generate automatically VRML files that can be viewed with a VRML browser (see above). The standard setting for decimal seperator is the '.' and not another separator. Visiplan can change this setting automatically but you can also change it manually by going to the configuration screen (Control Panel ) of Windows and select 'Regional and Language Options'. On the screen 'Regional Options', you find a button called 'Customize...'. On the next screen you can change the Decimal Symbol to a dot[.]. This is a necessary options that you have to change if you want to view VRML 3D representations. This can give an error in Visiplan and its supporting tools, if this setting is not been change.

  • The problem is most likely caused with the latest cumulative security patch for IE. You can find more information about this patch under http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912812/ If you uninstall this patch via the configuration window, the COSMO player will work again. We are searching for a solution to solve this problem. At the moment, when it is necessary to have this update, you can install the Cortona VRML client to browser the VRML outputs in VISIPLAN. Afterwards, you may uninstall the COSMO player. The failure of the VRML output is not something from the VISIPLAN suite or its supporting tools.

  • Please download the fix DAO 3.5 from the download section and run the executable contained within this zipped file. Under windows XP there is a known problem for the Microsoft JET engine. This problem can be solved by downloading the Service Pack 3 for Database Engines. This can be downloaded at the following link jet35sp3.zip. Run the executable contained within this zipped file.

  • Please download the fix DAO 3.5 from the download section and run the executable contained within this zipped file.

  • The GRAPH32.OCX control does not always install properly when Visiplan msi installer file is run. This causes a runtime error when VISIPLAN attempts to draw a graph. The reason this installation fails is that GRAPH32.OCX needs to reference some files that are not available. These were not build in the msi installer file because most users got those files with the installed windows Operating System. GRAPH32.OCX installation fails when the user does not have them. If you download the patch, run it, reboot, and then try to run the Visiplan Suite, the problem should be solved.
Please download the fix graphpatch.zip and run the executable contained within this zipped file.

  • Please download the zip ocx-dll.zip and unzip it. Then you have to copy the files to the system32 directory and register them manually.

Then, click on Start -> Run then type the following commands (example):

    • regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\threed32.ocx (for windows 95-98 -ME)
    • regsvr32 c:\winnt\system32\threed32.ocx (for windows 2000 - XP)

You have to do this for all the dll's and ocx files.
